Roundtable Discussion. Co-author: Destyni Green, MA
The purpose of this roundtable is to bring together different perspectives to discuss the intersectionality of race, gender, and power in the field of arts administration. There is very little literature pertaining to the intersectional experiences of being, working in, and becoming a leader in arts administration. While in recent years, there has been a rise in scholarly discourse on gender disparity in arts administration (Jung, Schinberg, and Xie, 2020), there has been no scholarly development on the impact of racial disparities in the field. Furthermore, there has yet to be scholarly activity approaching arts administration through an intersectional framework encompassing race, gender, and power collectively. Thus, we are approaching this topic from a community, co-reflective perspective, with our aim of bringing together a roundtable of arts administration scholars to discuss the implications and impact of race, gender, and power in arts administration today and in the future. Ultimately, this discussion sets the stage for immediate and long-range future collaborations to emerge between researchers and scholars interested in investigating the possibilities and challenges of intersectionality within the field of arts administration.
